Singer Nansija Garkalne Injures Finger at Carnival Youth Concert, Visits Emergency Room

Singer Nansija Garkalne had an unexpected mishap before the Carnival Youth concert at Mežaparks’ Zaļais Teātris. While capturing the sunny evening on video with her friend and journalist Kristīne Garklāva, she accidentally kicked her own hand during a joyful jump, severely injuring her finger. The pain was intense, comparable to slamming a finger in a car door.

She spent most of the concert with an ice pack on her hand, obtained from a food vendor, initially believing the finger was merely bruised. However, as the pain persisted, she went to the emergency room that same night. An X-ray revealed no fracture, but a doctor advised immobilizing the finger with a splint.

The singer expressed disappointment with the physician’s demeanor, feeling he was not genuinely concerned about her well-being. She only confirmed the finger would stay in place and was satisfied with the answer. She wore the splint for just three days, as it hindered daily tasks like washing dishes. Though the finger remained bruised and sensitive for a while, no long-term consequences followed.

This was not Garkalne’s first unusual injury. At age 12, while trying to catch the internet signal from neighbors, she jumped onto a windowsill and injured her little toe, initially unaware it was broken. Only later she noticed the toe was bent at nearly a 90-degree angle. That injury was more serious, requiring a cast and crutches for some time.
