Children cause explosions near abandoned house in Narva-Jõesuu
Children in Narva-Jõesuu used bottles filled with chemicals and foil to cause explosions near an abandoned building; police and sappers responded.
On Tuesday evening, August 4, at 8:36 p.m., the Ida Rescue Centre received reports of children on the roof of an abandoned building on Sepa Street in Narva-Jõesuu. Callers also reported loud bangs resembling explosions. Police and bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Upon arrival, rescue workers detained several children. According to the Ida Rescue Centre, the children had made improvised explosives by filling bottles with a chemical substance, adding foil, and then throwing the bottles around. The mixture caused explosions. After checking the site, the EOD specialists confirmed there was no longer any danger. The children were given a talk, and the incident was handed over to the police.
Authorities stress that such use of chemicals poses a serious threat. Broken glass from the bottles can injure the eyes, face and skin. If a caustic liquid comes into contact with the skin or eyes, it can lead to irritation or burns. Playing with chemicals in this way can harm the child themselves, other children and passers-by, and cause substantial damage.
The rescue services, police and sappers urge parents to explain the dangers of chemical substances to their children, noting that such games can end in severe consequences.
