Narva-Jõesuu opens new sea pier
Narva-Jõesuu on Saturday officially opened a new sea pier protecting the river mouth and beach, with city officials hoping it will become a new tourist attraction.
A long-awaited event took place in Narva-Jõesuu on Saturday, as the city's mayor officially opened a new sea pier to the public, Estonian broadcaster's "Aktuaalne Kaamera" reported.
The structure, built to protect the mouth of the river and the beach area, had already drawn strong interest from visitors to the resort town during construction. Following the opening, local authorities hope to see a rise in tourist numbers.
Mayor of Narva-Jõesuu Maksim Iljin said the completion of the pier marks the start of a new chapter for the town's development. He expressed confidence that, together with the lighthouse and the cultural quarter still under construction nearby, the pier holds great potential that will soon have a positive effect on both tourism and local business development.
First visitors
The first official visitors to the pier were newlyweds Artur and Anastasia, who were celebrating their wedding day in Narva-Jõesuu on Saturday. They had been invited to take part in the opening ceremony. The couple said it was their first time at the site, describing the view as striking and beautiful, and suggested the new pier could become a popular spot for walks and wedding photography.
City authorities are already preparing for the next stage of the resort town's development — the restoration of the historic Kursaal building.
