Station Narva music festival brings Tricky, ALIKA and Propeller to Narva
Narva is hosting the ninth edition of the Station Narva music and urban culture festival, which combines foreign artists with well-known Estonian musicians. British trip-hop legend Tricky headlines Friday's program.
Narva is currently hosting the ninth Station Narva music and urban culture festival. As in previous years, this year's lineup combines international performers with prominent Estonian musicians and artists closely tied to the Ida-Viru region.
The festival opened on Thursday at the "Rugodiv" culture house with a concert featuring Eesti Gruuv alongside TripleTone and the Narva City Symphony Orchestra, performing Estonian funk, soul and disco from past decades.
Friday's headliner
Friday's headline act is British trip-hop legend Tricky. According to Ingrid Kohtla, curator of Station Narva's music program, Tricky has a personal history with the festival — he performed at its very first edition. His current band also includes guitarist Mariin Kallikorm, who is originally from Ida-Viru county.
Several generations on stage
Alongside the international guests, the program features multiple generations of Estonian music, ranging from young performers to the band Propeller, which has been active for almost half a century. Narva-born singer ALIKA has also prepared a special concert together with the Magic Land vocal studio, where her music career originally began.
Kohtla noted that the program includes two generations of Estonian punk: the band Skoone, described as young and energetic, and Propeller, which has been performing for nearly 50 years.
As in previous years, the festival extends beyond music venues, giving visitors a chance to experience Narva itself — its culture, people and unusual urban spaces.
