Following the Narva city council's decision on a land exchange with the state, preparations have begun for the construction of a military town. The first phase will house up to 150 personnel from the Defence Forces.

Ando Voogma, project portfolio manager at the Centre for Defence Investments, stated that the planned main military town will be built in a single phase. Work is set to start at the end of the year and finish by summer 2028. Additionally, a temporary container town will be established, with construction expected to be completed by early 2027.

As a result of the land swap, Narva will receive compensation of approximately €400,000 and a plot of land in the old town area. Mayor Katri Raik noted that the land is suitable for a small residential building, but specific plans and projects have not yet been discussed.

According to the General Staff of the Defence Forces, the unit to be stationed in Narva belongs to the 1st Infantry Brigade. The military town is designed for 1,000 people, but around 200 soldiers will serve there permanently.
