Narva athlete Jeļizaveta Fjodorova won a bronze medal in the 1000-meter event at the European Championships for canoe sprinters under 23, held in Hungary. She finished just 0.2 seconds behind the silver medalist.

Fjodorova notes that in such tight races, the outcome often depends not only on physical preparation but also on how well an athlete mentally focuses before the start and avoids giving up during the race.

A demanding season

Her preparation this season began with training camps in Italy and Croatia, followed by a string of international competitions: a World Cup stage in Germany, the European Championships, and now the upcoming World Championships. Her coach, Oleg Gorokh, stresses that achieving this level of results demands an enormous amount of daily training work.

Competing at senior international level is no longer new for Fjodorova — this season she placed fourth at the World Cup stage in Germany and seventh in Canada.

World Championships ahead

The World Championships will take place from August 23 to 30 in the Polish city of Poznań, with athletes from fifty countries competing. Fjodorova will be the sole representative of Estonia at the event, and her coach expressed hope that she will deliver a worthy performance.
