Man with hammer smashes windows and glass doors in central Narva
A man with a hammer broke shop and restaurant windows and glass doors of a shopping centre in central Narva around 11:30. Police arrested the 29-year-old suspect and opened a criminal case.
About 11:30 in central Narva, a man went through the area with a hammer and smashed the windows of shops and restaurants as well as the glass doors of a shopping centre. The incidents took place in the Petrovska Square district and on Aleksander Pushkin Street and Paul Keres Street, according to the local newspaper 'Severnoje Poberežje'. The man acted openly, striking the glass surfaces in full view of people who were nearby.
The vandalism was stopped by shopping centre security guards and police officers who arrived quickly after receiving a call. The police detained a 29-year-old man in connection with the incident. Jegor Luik, a Narva police official, confirmed that the man had been taken into custody.
A criminal investigation has been initiated under the article of the Penitentiary Code on damage and destruction of property. In Estonia, the offence carries a penalty of a fine or imprisonment of up to five years.
