Narva magnet factory asks city to fix speed-limit signage and add bus route to plant
Magnet manufacturer NPM Narva has asked city authorities to clarify confusing speed-limit signage near its site after drivers were fined, and to route a bus service to the plant. The company also wants a stop built near the factory to help its growing workforce commute.
NPM Narva, a magnet manufacturer based in the Estonian border city of Narva, has written to the city government asking for changes to traffic signage and public transport near its production site.
The issue centers on a stretch of Elektrijaama tee near Tehase street, where the general speed limit is 70 km/h. However, no signs mark a different speed limit at the turn leading into the NPM Narva plant grounds, which the company says has created confusion for drivers. Some motorists continuing at speeds up to 70 km/h in that area have already been fined by police, according to the company's letter to the city.
NPM Narva is asking the city to install appropriate road signs and review how traffic is organized along Tehase street and Elektrijaama tee to prevent further confusion and penalties.
Bus service request
The company has also proposed rerouting one of the city's bus lines through Tehase street and building a stop close to the factory. NPM Narva currently employs more than 230 people, and the company estimates that number could grow to 350 within the next year. Management believes improved bus connections would make it easier for staff to commute to and from work.
Estonia's Police and Border Guard Board told Rus.ERR it plans to comment on Monday regarding the speed restrictions and fines issued on that stretch of road.
