Narva border crossing briefly halted after aggressive foreign national
Estonia's Narva border checkpoint suspended operations for several minutes on Friday after a foreign national without documents tried to enter and turned aggressive when refused. He was banned from entering Estonia and deported.
On Friday, September 11, at 17:34, the Narva border checkpoint briefly suspended its operations following an incident involving a foreign national who attempted to cross without the necessary documents.
According to the Ida Prefecture, which reported the incident on social media, the man became aggressive after being denied entry. As a result, checkpoint operations were temporarily halted. He was ultimately barred from entering Estonia and deported from the country.
Operations resumed at 17:41, meaning the disruption lasted only about seven minutes.
Recent similar incident at Luhamaa
This is not the only recent disturbance at Estonia's eastern border. On Sunday, September 6, Estonian authorities were forced to close the Luhamaa checkpoint two hours earlier than usual, after two Iranian citizens repeatedly attempted to enter Estonia via Russian territory.
The Russian side accepted the Iranian nationals back on Monday morning, after which the Luhamaa checkpoint resumed normal operations around 10:00.
Together, the two incidents point to recurring difficulties at Estonia's border, where guards periodically encounter attempts to enter the country without proper documentation.
