Narva's Vanalinna School moves to temporary premises for two years
The Vanalinna School in Narva has relocated to temporary premises in the Krengolm district for two years due to major renovation. The new school year in the city began with 360 children sitting at their desks for the first time.
The new school year in Narva has brought significant changes for one local school. Due to extensive renovation of its main building, the Vanalinna School will operate from a different location for the next two years. The school has moved into temporary premises in the Krengolm district.
School principal Alena Kordonchuk said the move went smoothly and the staff begins the year with positive expectations. Most of the employees returned to work in August, and feedback about the new premises has been positive. Teachers are expected to appreciate the spacious, light-filled classrooms that have been prepared for the academic year.
The school will stay in the temporary building for two full academic years. The plan is to return to its original premises in the summer of 2028, provided the renovation is completed on schedule. Despite the change of address, the school has not lost its popularity.
This year, 119 applications were submitted for 48 places in two first-grade classes. The principal acknowledged that the admissions commission had a difficult task, but she trusts her colleagues. She also noted that children who were not admitted to the school are no worse off — only 48 children were accepted.
The Vanalinna School shares the temporary building with the Narva Choral School. This proximity could lead to educational cooperation. According to Kordonchuk, discussions are underway about arranging music school classes for primary school students.
