In an interview with the Latvian news agency LETA, Brigadier General Jay Jensen, Director of Strategic Communications at NATO's Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), stated that Russia's main strategic goal—restoring the Russian Empire—is failing. According to him, this strategy is unsustainable, and Moscow should consider a compromise or develop a "Plan B."

General Jensen emphasized that NATO's deterrence posture remains effective, and the Alliance's forces can prevent Russia from gaining any advantage. He noted that forward-deployed brigades, along with air, naval, and space forces, ensure that no one has attacked the Alliance. However, readiness is essential.

Jensen pointed out that Russia's increasingly threatening rhetoric and brutal actions in Ukraine indicate desperation. "Their strategy is not working, and there is no clear Plan B," he said. This behavior exposes Russia's weakness but also makes it more dangerous, like a wounded animal. Therefore, Allied leaders are considering how to steer Russia toward a desirable Plan B.

The general warned that instability will persist for years, as evidenced by the Kremlin's overhaul of school curricula, indoctrinating even young children with military values. "They are taught to handle weapons and convinced that their duty is to defend the homeland at any cost. Children are being prepared for future mobilization," Jensen noted.

He urged focusing on one's own preparedness rather than the adversary's actions. "We must be aware, but our energy should go into strengthening resilience and protecting democratic institutions. The fight begins today—with informed and engaged citizens," the general added.
