Nauseda: New US Troop Rotation Heading to Lithuania

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said on Tuesday that a new rotation of United States troops is currently on its way to Lithuania. In a statement released by the presidential office, he described the news as excellent for Lithuania, stressing that American military personnel will continue to be present in the country.

Nauseda thanked President Donald Trump and the US administration for the decision, calling it important not only for Lithuania's security but for that of the entire region. He emphasized that the US military presence in Lithuania is an irreplaceable part of deterrence and collective defense, and that the allies' resolve to stand together with Lithuania sends a clear signal that NATO is ready to defend every inch of its territory.

According to the president, the exact number of incoming American troops is not yet clear, but it will not be smaller than before, according to broadcaster LRT.

Nauseda also noted that, since Europe's security environment remains challenging, the strength of the transatlantic bond and the visible presence of allies are particularly important. The statement added that this is further concrete proof that a stronger Europe and firm American commitments to European security complement one another.

As the BNS news agency has reported, the United States is currently reviewing its troop presence in Europe. In Lithuania, a rotation involving more than 1,000 American troops concluded this summer. The US has regularly deployed battalions of troops to Lithuania since 2019, and following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Washington changed the status of its forces in the country to a continuous rotational deployment.
