Nawrocki's office responds to Russian drone strikes near Polish border
The Polish president's chancellery confirmed that Karol Nawrocki is being kept fully informed about Sunday's Russian drone attacks near the Polish border. No border violation was recorded, though services remain on alert.
The chancellery of Polish President Karol Nawrocki confirmed on Sunday that he is receiving full information about Russian drone attacks that took place near Poland's border, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing Polsat News.
Presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz said Nawrocki is continuously briefed on all incidents related to the security of the Republic of Poland by the National Security Bureau's duty operational service, which remains in contact with the Government Security Centre and other agencies. He stressed that the chancellery would promptly inform the public of any presidential decisions.
Drones near the border
Early Sunday morning, Polish systems detected an attack by several Russian "Geran-5" jet-propelled drones on western Ukraine. One of them fell 1 kilometer from the border with Poland, another fell 5 kilometers away.
Polish armed forces scrambled fighter jets, while services warned residents of border regions about the danger. One Russian drone struck a Kyiv–Warsaw train before it reached the Polish border, while another hit an area near the Dorohusk–Yahodyn border crossing.
The operational command of the Polish armed forces reported by 10:00 that no violation of the Polish Republic's border had been recorded after the operation concluded.
At 17:00 on Sunday, a special meeting of services, ministers and agency representatives was scheduled at the Government Security Centre headquarters, called on the initiative of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Jacek Goryszewski, spokesman for the operational command of the Polish armed forces, said that on the night of September 13, when Russia attacked Ukrainian regions, the threat to his country was real.
