Nawrocki to Meet Polish Military and Defence Leadership on September 18 Over Security Situation

Polish President Karol Nawrocki will meet on September 18 with Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and General Wiesław Kukuła, chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, to discuss the current security situation. The announcement came from Bartosz Grodecki, head of Poland's National Security Bureau, as reported by broadcaster RMF24.

According to Grodecki, the meeting will focus on the ongoing security situation and measures being taken in light of recent events. Cooperation between agencies responsible for security will also be discussed. Following the meeting, the National Security Bureau will prepare recommendations for further systemic measures.

Recent border incidents

Over the past several days, Russia has carried out a series of strikes in close proximity to the Ukraine-Poland border. Targets have included a fuel station near the "Yahodyn–Dorohusk" border crossing and a locomotive of a Ukrainian Railways passenger train about two kilometers from the border. On the night before September 13, a drone struck a truck near the same border crossing.

On September 15, a drone believed to be a Russian-made "Gerbera" was spotted off the Polish coast in the Baltic Sea. On the morning of September 16, air raid alerts were issued in Poland's border regions due to further jet-powered drones over western Ukraine, prompting temporary suspension of operations at Rzeszów and Lublin airports.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced plans to speed up traffic flow at the border with Ukraine to prevent vehicle backups that could become targets for Russian attacks.
