Thompson twins become first brother pair in NBA history to each sign $100 million deals
Detroit Pistons' Ausar Thompson and his twin brother Amen Thompson of the Houston Rockets have signed new contracts worth a combined $363 million within weeks of each other, making them the first twin brothers in NBA history to each land nine-figure deals.
Several NBA players secured major contract extensions this offseason, but the agreements signed by twin brothers Ausar and Amen Thompson have drawn particular attention. Ausar Thompson agreed to a five-year, $155 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, averaging roughly $31 million per season. The deal came shortly after his twin brother Amen Thompson signed a five-year, $208 million contract with the Houston Rockets in early September, averaging $41.6 million annually.
Combined, the brothers have signed for $363 million this offseason, and according to reporting from insider sources, they are now the first pair of brothers in NBA history to each receive contracts worth at least $100 million.
Other recent extensions
Around the same time, Utah Jazz guard Keyonte George also signed a new deal — a five-year, $157.5 million agreement, slightly larger than Ausar Thompson's contract. Swedish player Pelle Larsson of the Miami Heat signed a four-year, $60 million extension.
From the draft to major paydays
All three players besides Larsson were selected in the 2023 draft, at different positions — Amen Thompson at No. 4, Ausar Thompson at No. 5, and George at No. 16. Larsson was picked a year later, in 2024, at No. 44.
Last season, George started all 54 games he played for the Jazz, averaging 33.1 minutes, 23.6 points and 6.1 assists per game. Ausar Thompson started 72 of 73 games for the Pistons, averaging 9.9 points and 5.7 rebounds. Larsson started 54 of 70 games for the Heat, averaging 11.4 points per game.
