Latvian Armed Forces warn of possible airspace threat over Krāslava region

Latvia's National Armed Forces (NBS) issued a warning on Wednesday about a possible threat in the airspace over Krāslava municipality, near the country's eastern border.

The alert, issued at the "yellow warning" level, urged residents to stay alert but stated that no further action is currently required from the public. The NBS said that if the situation changes, residents will receive a cell broadcast alert with instructions on what to do.

NATO fighters scrambled

In connection with the possible threat, the NBS reported that fighter jets from NATO's Baltic air-policing mission have been activated. The mission is responsible for the ongoing protection of Baltic airspace, and the scrambling of jets indicates a response to a specific situation in the border region, though further details have not yet been disclosed.
