Not Just the Price: Five Things to Check Before Booking a Hotel
Before booking a hotel, travellers should look beyond the rate and consider the actual location, repeated complaints in reviews, what is included in the price, check-in rules, and whether the photos reflect reality.

Nowadays a hotel or apartment can be booked within minutes, but beautiful photos and a high rating do not always guarantee a pleasant stay. Travelers often notice important details only after arriving at their destination, when it is too late to change anything. Here are five things worth checking before you hit the "Book" button.
1. Location is not always as good as it seems
A hotel may be marked as being "in the centre," but in reality it can take 30 or even 40 minutes to reach the sights. Before booking, it is worth opening a map, checking the distance to the places you plan to visit, and finding out about public transport options.
2. Look for repeated complaints rather than just the rating
A score of 8.8 or 9.2 does not tell you much if dozens of people mention the same problem. Pay attention to whether complaints about noise, dirt, poor soundproofing, uncomfortable beds, or unfriendly staff keep recurring. If one issue is mentioned many times, it most likely exists.
3. What exactly is included in the price?
The lowest price is not always the best deal. Check whether breakfast is included, whether you have to pay for parking, whether a city or tourist tax applies, and whether there are extra charges for air conditioning or a safe.
4. Check-in and check-out times
A cheap flight may mean arriving late in the evening, when the hotel reception is already closed. Before booking, find out until what time check-in is possible, whether self-service check-in is available, and whether late arrival involves an additional fee.
5. Pay attention to what is not visible in the photos
Promotional images usually show only the best parts. Before booking, it is worth looking at traveler-uploaded photos, exploring the neighbourhood on Street View, and checking whether there are nightclubs, construction sites, or busy traffic routes nearby.
Remember!
Before booking, check: the location on a map, the latest reviews, what is included in the price, check-in and check-out times, and traveller-published photos.
