Weekend weather to shift as forecasters warn of a wetter Sunday

Latvia's Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre reports that weather over the coming weekend will be changeable, with Sunday expected to be less pleasant than Saturday.

Saturday

Saturday will be mostly cloudy with occasional sunshine. Rain is expected overnight across many areas, but only in isolated spots during the day. Southwesterly and westerly winds will blow, with coastal gusts reaching 15–19 metres per second during the day, while gusts in the Kurzeme and Vidzeme regions may reach up to 15 metres per second. Overnight temperatures will range from 11 to 16 degrees Celsius, rising to 15–18 degrees during the day.

Sunday

Sunday will be mostly overcast. Overnight rain will mainly affect western districts, while daytime rain is expected more widely, heavy in places. Thunderstorms are possible in the evening. Winds will blow from the southwest and south, moderate to strong along the coast, with overnight gusts reaching up to 19 metres per second. Overnight temperatures will drop to 12–16 degrees, warming to 15–18 degrees during the day.

Early next week

On Monday, skies will be variably cloudy with rain expected in most areas, heavy in places overnight. Winds will ease, with gusts along the coast reaching up to 17 metres per second only during the first half of the night. Overnight temperatures will be 10–14 degrees, rising to 13–15 degrees during the day.

Forecasters expect the gusty winds to subside early next week, bringing calmer conditions overall, though rain will continue. Air temperatures are expected to remain similar to Monday's levels, with nights a few degrees cooler.
