Latvia's Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre forecasts that an anticyclone will shape the weather over the coming weekend, bringing drier conditions but also night frosts in some areas. The forecast was published on 15 October and covers the whole country.

Earlier in the week, cyclones dominated and rain fell in many places. As air pressure rises towards the weekend, precipitation will decrease and cloud cover will vary.

Precipitation and fog

On Saturday daytime, rain is expected in western and central regions. On the night to Sunday, light rain is possible only in central areas, while Sunday itself should be dry and mostly sunny.

Fog will form in places at night, mainly in the eastern and central regions, and may linger into the morning or even late morning.

Temperature and wind

A light to moderate southerly wind will blow, turning to come from the north on Saturday afternoon. Night temperatures will average +3 to +8 degrees Celsius, but in parts of the east frost is expected, with readings dropping to 0 to -2. Daytime highs will be +8 to +13, a couple of degrees warmer on Friday.

Outlook for next week

At the start of next week the centre of the anticyclone will approach Latvia. Weather will be dry with frequent sunshine. Daytime temperatures will reach +7 to +12 degrees, while nights will still bring slight sub-zero readings in places.
