Rain zone to sweep across Latvia this weekend, forecasters say
Forecasters report that a band of rain will move across Latvia from Saturday afternoon through Monday, with mild but wet weather expected to continue into the first days of September.
According to weather forecasters, Saturday morning will bring partly cloudy skies, but clouds will gradually spread across the country from the west as the day progresses. Around midday, a zone of precipitation will begin crossing Latvia from the west, bringing brief showers to the western and central regions, with isolated thunder possible in some areas. Winds will blow from the southeast or south, light to moderate, becoming gusty along the coast and in central areas.
Overnight, temperatures will drop to +10…+15°C across most of the country, though coastal areas may stay warmer, up to +17°C in places. During the day, the sun will warm the air to +18…+23°C.
Rain to continue through the rest of the weekend
Overnight from Saturday to Sunday, the rain zone will shift toward the central and eastern parts of the country, with isolated thunderstorms possible. On Sunday, brief showers are expected in some areas. Rain will persist into Monday as well — overnight mainly in the northern regions, and during the day more widely across the country. Light to moderate southerly winds will dominate throughout this period, and patchy fog may form overnight into Sunday where winds are weak.
Nighttime temperatures during this stretch will range from +13 to +18°C, while daytime readings will reach +19…+24°C.
Forecasters note that in the first days of September, when schoolchildren mark the start of the academic year, the weather will remain moderately warm, though rain is expected across nearly the entire country.
