The heat that has gripped Latvia in recent days is expected to ease during the weekend. According to weather forecasters, the latest warm spell will be short-lived, and temperatures will gradually fall.

While Thursday could still bring summer heat, with maximum temperatures between +21°C on the western coast of Courland and +30°C in parts of Latgale, the following three days will be noticeably cooler. From Friday through Sunday, daytime highs across the country are forecast to stay within +19..+24°C.

The night leading into Thursday is expected to be the warmest night of the week, with lows of +16..+20°C. Afterwards, nighttime temperatures will drop steadily; by Sunday morning, some places may see the thermometer sink to as low as +7..+9°C. The unsettled conditions will bring occasional rain and thunderstorms to parts of Latvia, with the greatest chance of heavier showers in the southeast. Friday will also feature gusty westerly winds.

Forecasters say that early next week may bring a brief warm-up, but the cooler pattern is likely to return soon after. Precipitation totals are expected to remain below the seasonal norm, similar to what has been observed this week.
