An anticyclone will start shaping the weather in Latvia this weekend, bringing less precipitation, though fog will still form in places at night and temperatures will dip below zero in parts of the country. This is according to the forecast of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. An anticyclone is a high-pressure system that typically brings dry weather.

Earlier in the week, the weather in Latvia was mostly governed by cyclones, and rain fell in many areas. Towards the end of the week, atmospheric pressure will gradually rise, with changeable cloud cover.

Precipitation and fog

On Saturday daytime, rain is expected in western and central regions. Overnight into Sunday, light rain is possible only in central areas, while Sunday daytime is forecast to be dry and mostly sunny.

Mainly in eastern and central regions, fog will form in places at night and may linger into the morning or even late morning. A light to moderate southerly wind will blow, turning to a northerly direction on Saturday afternoon.

Temperature

Night-time temperatures will average +3 to +8 degrees. In the east, frost is expected in places, with temperatures falling to 0 to −2 degrees. Daytime highs will be +8 to +13 degrees, with Friday a couple of degrees warmer.

At the start of next week, the centre of the anticyclone will approach Latvia. Pleasant, dry weather with frequent sunshine is forecast. Daytime temperatures will reach +7 to +12 degrees, while nights will still bring slight sub-zero readings in places.
