Changeable weather is expected in Latvia at the start of the new week, while the second half should bring more sunshine and drier conditions. That is the forecast of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC), the state agency responsible for weather monitoring and forecasting. The outlook covers the week beginning 12 October.

Start of the week

On Monday, a cyclone will influence the weather over the Baltic Sea, and on Tuesday a high-pressure area will replace it. A new cyclone is due to approach on Wednesday. The wind will ease slightly at first, so fog will thicken across large areas, but by midweek the wind will pick up again.

Monday and Tuesday will be mostly cloudy, with clearing only at times. Short-lived rain is expected. On the night before Monday, heavy downpours are possible in some places, and a thunderstorm may occur on the coast. With light winds, fog will form in many places at night and may linger in spots into the morning.

Night-time temperatures will fall to +4…+9 degrees, while daytime highs will range from +8 to +13 degrees.

Midweek and end of the week

Wednesday will again be mostly cloudy, with fog in places at night and in the morning. As the new cyclone approaches Latvia from the west, the wind will gradually strengthen, becoming a moderate south or southwest wind that will be gusty on the coast.

Toward the end of the working week the rain will stop and the sun will shine more often. Gusty wind is not expected until Sunday, when the weather will most likely turn wetter and windier again.
