Latvia's Week Begins with Brief Rain After Weekend's Severe Storm
Monday brings a mix of sun and clouds across Latvia with brief rain expected in many areas and temperatures rising to +16–20°C, following a powerful weekend storm that left around 277,000 households without power.
According to Latvia's Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the new week starts with changeable weather across the country. Monday will see a mix of sunshine and clouds, with brief rain expected in many regions. Thunderclouds may form in some central and eastern areas.
Winds will blow slow to moderate from the west and northwest, while daytime air temperatures will climb to between +16 and +20 degrees Celsius.
Riga will experience similar conditions, with clouds bringing brief rain from midday onward, occasionally giving way to clearer skies. Wind in the capital will remain slow to moderate from the west and northwest, and temperatures are expected to reach +19 degrees.
Weekend brought much harsher conditions
The relatively calm start to the new week stands in contrast to the severe weather Latvia experienced just days earlier. On Saturday, a powerful summer storm struck the country, bringing intense rainfall and gusty winds that in places exceeded 30 meters per second. The storm broke trees, flooded areas, and caused widespread damage to the power supply network. At the height of the storm, approximately 277,000 households across the country were left without electricity.
