Many Iranians Who Seek Work in Turkey End Up Exploited
Iranians who travel to neighboring Turkey for work because of economic hardship are often exploited. Many end up with nothing but additional debt.
Iranians facing severe financial difficulty are looking for work in neighboring Turkey in order to make ends meet. According to U.S. public media outlet NPR, however, many of them are being exploited there.
NPR reports that for many of these workers the effort does not pay off. Instead of earning money for themselves and their families, they are left with more debt than before.
The publicly available portion of the report does not provide further details, such as how many people are affected, which industries are involved or specific individual cases. For now, only the central point can be stated: people from Iran are going to Turkey to work out of economic need, and some of them encounter unfair treatment and financial loss.
