Neo Geo console remake delayed to September 2027
Manufacturer Plaion Replai has pushed back the release of its modern Neo Geo AES+ console from this November to September 16, 2027, citing high demand and a global memory chip shortage, though prices remain unchanged.
Plaion Replai, the company producing a modern recreation of the classic Neo Geo console under license from SNK, has announced a significant delay to its release. The Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System+ (AES+), originally due to ship this November, will now not arrive until September 16, 2027.
Reasons behind the delay
The company says the postponement stems from unexpectedly strong demand among fans, collectors and retail partners. At the same time, Plaion Replai has struggled to secure enough components due to a worldwide shortage of memory chips, driven largely by heavy investment in AI infrastructure. In a press release, the company said it chose not to proceed with a November launch under severely constrained availability, opting instead to take extra time to secure the supply needed to serve pre-order customers and a much larger global release.
Prices hold steady
Despite the delay, pricing will not change. The standard black edition remains priced at $250, while the limited-edition all-white 35th anniversary bundle — which includes a Metal Slug game cartridge and a memory card — stays at $350. Modernized game cartridges will still cost $90 each.
Customers who already placed pre-orders will not be affected by the delay and remain at the front of the queue. Early orderers will receive a free AES+ gamepad, and some bundles include a 30 percent discount voucher for game cartridges.
This is not Plaion Replai's first retro console project — the company has also worked on a Commodore 64 recreation and a limited-edition yellow Atari 2600.
