Brother of Agnese Fūrmane, missing in Nepal, launches charity drive for children left without parents
Andris, brother of Agnese Fūrmane who went missing in a Nepal disaster along with more than 30 other Latvians, is organizing a charity art auction to support relatives left behind, including her two children who now have no parents or income.
More than a month after a disaster in Nepal in which more than 30 Latvian citizens went missing, including Agnese Fūrmane and her husband, her brother Andris — together with artists Ieva Taranda and Māra Andersone-Freimane — is organizing the charity campaign "Pāri kalniem – pie savējiem" ("Over the mountains – to our own").
On August 26, more than 30 Latvians, including Agnese and her husband, were on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash when the now widely reported catastrophe occurred. Contact with the group has not been restored since. Agnese's two children, Klaudija and Pauls, have been left without parents and without means of support. Relatives of other missing Latvians face similar hardship and need help covering daily expenses.
Artists joining the cause
More than 30 artists have already joined the charity effort, including Ieva Taranda, Elita Patmalniece, Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa and Sabīne Līva. Their works will be on display at the Spice shopping center from October 13 to November 1, while a virtual auction catalogue will allow anyone to view the pieces and place bids online.
All proceeds from the auction will go entirely toward supporting relatives of the Latvians who went missing in Nepal. So far, 15 relatives of the missing Latvians have registered for assistance with everyday needs.
