At the same time, an additional problem has emerged: relatives of the missing people in Latvia are struggling to access information about their loved ones' financial and other everyday obligations. Family members are unable to find out what loans, payments, or other liabilities the missing individuals hold, nor can they make payments on their behalf.
This situation adds extra strain on families already coping with uncertainty over the fate of their relatives. Without a clear legal status or official confirmation of disappearance, relatives cannot take control of the missing persons' financial matters, which over time could lead to further financial and legal consequences, such as late fees or accumulating debt.
Search operations in the disaster-affected region are ongoing, and authorities hope to obtain new information about the missing people, including Latvian citizens who have not yet been located.
