Nepal experienced another natural disaster in late September when intense rainfall triggered a massive landslide. Footage of the event shows a large section of a mountain collapsing and sliding down within just a few seconds.
The heavy rain destabilized slopes that could not withstand the pressure of the water, resulting in a sudden and violent shift of earth. Such events are not uncommon in Nepal's mountainous regions during the rainy season, but this particular landslide stood out for its scale.
Rising death toll
According to available information, floods and landslides across the country have killed at least 24 people over a three-day period. The disaster affected several regions where rainfall levels were especially high, with infrastructure damaged by water and mud.
Nepal, located within the Himalayan mountain range, regularly faces floods and landslides during the monsoon season, when intense rain can trigger rapid and destructive consequences in mountainous terrain. Such natural events often damage roads and homes as well, complicating rescue efforts in more remote areas.
