Rescuers in Nepal and China continue search operations; 33 Latvian citizens among missing
Search and rescue operations have entered a fifth day in the Himalayas along the Nepal-China border following a glacier collapse that triggered devastating mudslides. Latvia's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that 33 Latvian citizens are listed as missing.
Rescue and search operations in the Himalayan region along the border between Nepal and China have now continued for five days following Wednesday's disaster, when mudslides triggered by a glacier collapse caused widespread destruction.
Death toll continues to rise
Nepalese authorities have confirmed at least 734 deaths, with nearly 2,500 people still listed as missing. Chinese authorities on their side of the border have reported at least 16 deaths and 546 people missing.
Latvian citizens among the missing
Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that 33 Latvian citizens have been officially registered as missing. Rescue services on both sides of the border continue their search for survivors and victims, with the situation in the region still considered extremely serious.
