Nepal and Tibet flood death toll passes 900 as thousands remain missing
On the sixth day after devastating floods and landslides in the Himalayas, the confirmed death toll in Nepal and China's Tibet region has surpassed 900, while nearly 4,800 people are still listed as missing.
Authorities in Nepal and China announced on Monday that the combined death toll from last week's catastrophic floods and landslides in the Himalayan region has exceeded 900 people. The disaster struck last Wednesday morning, and rescue teams have now been searching for victims for six consecutive days.
According to Nepalese authorities, 903 people have died in the country, while 4,247 remain unaccounted for. These figures point to an enormous ongoing search effort, with the fate of many people still unknown.
Tibet also affected
China's Tibet region has also been hit hard by the same natural disaster. According to state broadcaster CCTV, 16 people have died there, with a further 546 still missing. In total, 4,793 people across both areas are currently listed as missing.
As rescue crews continue working through the disaster-hit areas, the situation is being described as increasingly grim, with the confirmed death toll rising steadily. Search and rescue operations in the Himalayan region are ongoing.
