Six Latvian citizens listed among those missing in Nepal floods
Nepal's Tourism Department has published a list of people missing after devastating floods, including six Latvian nationals. Latvia's Foreign Ministry continues to receive new reports about potentially affected travelers.
The website "Everest Today" has published a list, compiled by Nepal's Tourism Department, of people who went missing during recent devastating floods in the country. The list contains 668 names from 36 countries, with the largest numbers of citizens from India and Nepal. Six Latvian nationals are also included.
The list names Ārija Lāce, born in 1968; Evita Sarma, born in 1974; Igors Dobrovoļskis, born in 1981; Olga Labada, born in 1978; and Sofija Dobrovoļska, born in 1982 — all five linked to the travel agency "Mighty Himalayas Trek". Also listed is Inga Veisa, whose birth year is not given, connected to the company "Yantra.lv".
Foreign Ministry keeps gathering information
According to the LETA news agency, the Consular Department of Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to receive new information about Latvian travelers who may have been affected by the floods in Nepal. So far, relatives of 25 Latvian nationals possibly in Nepal have contacted the ministry. A combined list compiled from various sources has grown to roughly 40 people, though the ministry stresses this is only an approximate figure.
On Thursday evening, calls circulated on social media asking anyone who had managed to reach a tour group of at least 30 people traveling in Nepal to share information. According to relatives, the trip had been organized by "Yantra.lv".
Who is behind "Yantra.lv"
Records from the business registry "Firmas.lv" show that an association called "Yantra.lv" is registered in Latvia, along with two limited liability companies with similar names — "Yantra" and "Yantra – Online". All of these entities are managed by Viktorija Darakova, who teaches yoga and runs courses related to yoga and Vedic knowledge, including organizing group yoga trips to India, Nepal, and Tibet.
