Lawyers: Families of Latvians missing in Nepal tragedy face numerous legal problems

Fifteen families of Latvian citizens who went missing in a tragedy in Nepal have turned to the Council of Sworn Advocates for legal help. Most of the difficulties involve practical, everyday matters that arose after families suddenly lost contact with their loved ones.

What problems families are facing

The families mainly need support with continuing payments for various services and loans while the missing relative is unable to handle these matters themselves. Another issue concerns children who need access to their parents' bank accounts in order to cover costs such as education. These cases illustrate how complicated legal and financial matters can become when a person suddenly becomes unreachable.

Foreign Ministry continues its work

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that DNA samples from relatives have been sent to both China and Nepal to assist with identification efforts. However, there is still no new information regarding the 33 Latvian travelers who remain missing. The situation remains unclear, and families continue to wait for news while also trying to resolve the everyday legal and financial problems caused by their relative's disappearance.
