Unattended Food Causes Fire in Smiltene; VUGD Reports on 24 Hours in Vidzeme
Yesterday in Smiltene, unattended food burned on a stove in an apartment, but the fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived. In total, the VUGD Vidzeme region received eight calls.

During the past 24 hours, from 6:30 AM on July 15 to 6:30 AM on July 16, the Vidzeme Regional Administration of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received eight calls. Of these, four were for fire suppression, three for rescue operations, and one turned out to be a false alarm.
One of the fires occurred in Beļava Parish, Gulbene Municipality, where hay bales were burning in a meadow covering an area of 100 square meters. The call was received at 5:45 PM, but the fire was extinguished before VUGD arrived. Additionally, firefighters responded to a garage fire in Valmiermuiža, Valmiera Municipality, where household items were burning on an area of 2 square meters, and to a wood chip pile fire on Rīgas Street in Valka, covering 12 square meters.
At 7:00 PM, a call was received to Baznīcas Square in Smiltene. In a second-floor apartment of a three-story residential building, food left unattended had burned on the stove. The fire covered only 0.01 square meters and was extinguished before the firefighters arrived.
Nationwide, VUGD received a total of 68 calls during this 24-hour period – 19 for fire suppression, 37 for rescue operations, and 12 were false alarms.
