Netflix's new horror game 'Unhinged' uses your phone for deeper immersion

Netflix announces 'Unhinged', a new horror game from Oxenfree developer Night School, starring Zoë Kravitz, Sadie Sink, and Troy Baker. The game stands out with an innovative smartphone controller that mirrors the phone's movements to control the flashlight and delivers calls and texts to the device in real time.

Netflix has revealed a new game from Night School Studio, the team behind the Oxenfree series. 'Unhinged' is a first-person horror experience starring Zoë Kravitz as Ava, trapped in her apartment during a hurricane. Her friend Claire (Sadie Sink) watches from across the street and offers guidance via phone, while Troy Baker voices the building's superintendent.

The game's unique feature is that Ava's hands mirror your phone's movements: tilt the phone to direct her flashlight, and the game will pipe calls and texts Ava receives to your device, making it ring, vibrate, and play audio. This creates a more immersive experience than a simple touchscreen controller.

'Unhinged' offers a story mode without time limits and a regular mode where players must find objects before a timer expires. If time runs out, Ava dies and players return to the last checkpoint. Netflix describes it as a compact experience, about the length of a TV episode. The game launches on Netflix on June 30 and requires a television, a phone, and an internet connection.
