Netflix now requires every user profile to be tied to a unique email address
Netflix has begun requiring that each profile under a subscription use a separate email address, giving secondary users their own login credentials. The change went into effect on June 15, 2026.

Netflix has implemented a policy change that now requires every user profile to be associated with a unique email address. According to Ars Technica, this update started rolling out on June 15, 2026. Previously, Netflix allowed multiple users to share a single account with different profiles, but now each profile must have its own login.
In one incident, the author's father was locked out of the Netflix account just before a live MMA event. Instead of accessing the content, he was prompted to "add an email address to your profile." After troubleshooting, it became clear that he needed to create his own login to continue using the service.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed that the change is permanent. It allows each user to store their own credentials, change passwords, and use two-factor authentication. Furthermore, profile owners can set language, audio, and display settings independently of the account holder. The update is part of Netflix's efforts to enhance security and user experience.
