In the National Hockey League (NHL) draft, Albert Shmits was selected with the high 5th overall pick by the New York Rangers. The club aims to get to know all the hockey players it has been scouting, so no special approach is applied to the Latvian defenseman.
In an interview with Latvian Television, Shmits stated that despite being chosen in the first round, all newcomers are treated equally here. He emphasized that the club has a lot of young players, but the attitude towards everyone is the same.
