Netherlands to ban imports from Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories
The Netherlands will ban imports of goods from Jewish settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, joining Ireland, Belgium, and Spain.
The Netherlands has announced it will prohibit the import of goods produced in Jewish settlements located in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories. With this move, the country follows Ireland, Belgium, and Spain, which have already implemented similar trade restrictions.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. The territory, excluding East Jerusalem, is home to over 500,000 Israeli settlers and approximately three million Palestinians. The settlements are considered illegal under international law.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the measures reinforce the country's commitment to fulfill its international obligations and avoid contributing to the illegal situation. A June report by the non-governmental organization Global Echo noted that the Netherlands receives one-third of agricultural exports from Israeli settlements, accounting for nearly half of such exports to the European Union.
