Two very heavy defeats have been recorded in the Eredivisie, the top division of Dutch club football, within two days. On Saturday PSV beat bottom-placed Willem II 7-0 in Eindhoven, and on Sunday Twente won 9-0 away against Excelsior.

PSV v Willem II, 7-0

A week earlier Willem II lost 6-1 at home to Cambuur of Leeuwarden, and this time they suffered a fifth consecutive defeat. Their season record stands at 0 wins, 2 draws and 9 losses. Sven Mijnans and United States international forward Ricardo Pepi each scored for PSV and each also set up a goal. The Eindhoven side had 69% of possession, led shots 20-4 (9-1 on target) and corners 11-1.

Excelsior v Twente, 0-9

Excelsior were reduced to ten men in the 5th minute of their home match, trailed 5-0 by half-time and went on to lose 9-0. Twente also dominated the statistics: 79% possession, 28-0 in shots, 15-0 on target and 8-0 in corners. It was Excelsior's fourth defeat in a row; in that run they also lost 4-0 in Heerenveen and 5-1 at home to Groningen.

Forward Wout Weghorst, who joined Twente this summer from Amsterdam's Ajax, scored four goals. Sondre Erjaseter, a 22-year-old Norwegian signed a year ago from Sarpsborg for five million euros, provided five assists. Dane Rots scored twice.

Standings

After 11 rounds PSV and Twente each have 23 points. They sit behind Feyenoord of Rotterdam (25) and Ajax of Amsterdam (24). Ajax hold the Eredivisie record for the most convincing victory: a 13-0 away win over VVV-Venlo six years ago.
