Dutch swimmer Steenbergen breaks world record in 100m freestyle
Marit Steenbergen, 26, set a new world record in the 100m freestyle at the Dutch Championships, clocking 51.68 seconds and beating Sarah Sjöström's previous mark by 0.03 seconds.

Dutch swimmer Marit Steenbergen has set a new world record in the 100-meter freestyle. The 26-year-old clocked 51.68 seconds at the Dutch Championships, improving on Sarah Sjöström's 2017 record by 0.03 seconds.
Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong finished second, 0.84 seconds behind, while Italy's Sarah Curtis took third with a time of 52.69 seconds.
Steenbergen is a two-time world champion in the 100m freestyle and the only woman to have swum the distance under 52 seconds more than once.
