Last weekend‘s intense heat wave in New York City had many craving frozen drinks. A TechCrunch journalist tested the new Ninja Slushi Twist, an upgraded version of the original Slushi. The key difference is two 48-ounce vessels that can make two completely different frozen drinks at the same time — from classic slushies to frappés, milkshakes, frozen coffees, and smoothies. The machine operates independently on each side, so one vessel can hold a non-alcoholic mocktail while the other mixes a cocktail.

Ninja equipped the device with “Dual SlushAssist” technology, which automatically senses the contents in each chamber and adjusts the freezing temperature accordingly. For example, a creamy milkshake stays smooth while a fruit slush freezes to the perfect icy consistency. A new twist dispenser lets users pour drinks separately or turn a dial to swirl both flavors together into one glass, creating impressive layered drinks.

Cleaning is simple: press the rinse button and add warm water until it runs clear. However, the Slushi Twist is noticeably larger than the original model, so users need adequate counter or storage space. Priced at $399.99, it's a significant investment. For larger households or frequent entertainers, the dual-vessel design is a strong selling point, but for occasional use, it may be more machine than needed.
