Nissan prepares hybrid Kicks e-POWER for European market launch
Nissan will bring a hybrid version of its compact Kicks crossover, equipped with e-POWER technology, to Europe, with production based at its Sunderland plant in the UK. It marks the automaker's second European model announcement this month.
Nissan is expanding its lineup of electrified vehicles in Europe with the upcoming launch of the Kicks e-POWER. The compact B-segment crossover will be manufactured at Nissan's plant in Sunderland, UK, where the company plans to invest £170 million to support production of the new model.
Kicks will become the tenth model built at the Sunderland plant, joining the Qashqai, Juke and LEAF already in production there. The factory is marking its 40th anniversary this year, having produced 12 million vehicles since it began operating.
Third-generation e-POWER technology
The new Kicks will feature Nissan's third-generation e-POWER hybrid system. Unlike conventional hybrids, the vehicle is driven solely by an electric motor, while the petrol engine functions purely as a generator that charges the battery. This setup delivers the quiet, smooth driving experience typical of an electric vehicle while still allowing drivers to refuel at conventional filling stations.
The Kicks is already sold in other markets worldwide, with more than 1.8 million units sold across over 70 countries to date. The European version will feature the latest generation of the e-POWER system, designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and enhance driving comfort.
The Kicks e-POWER marks Nissan's second new model announcement for the European market this month alone. The company also plans to soon unveil a new small A-segment electric vehicle called PIXO.
