Latvia's emergency medical service reports communication gaps during weekend storm

Liene Cipule, director of Latvia's Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), spoke in an interview with Latvian Television's programme "Rīta panorāma" about the difficulties the service faced during the storm that hit over the weekend.

According to Cipule, the main challenge during this period was disruption to communication systems. Because of the storm, some NMPD crews temporarily vanished entirely from the radar tracking system the service relies on, making it harder to monitor their location and activity in real time.

The NMPD director described this situation as one of the biggest challenges the service had to deal with due to the extreme weather conditions. The interview did not go into further detail on the number of specific incidents, their duration, or any impact on patient care.

The information became public through Latvian Television's "Rīta panorāma" programme, where Cipule gave a broader account of how the emergency medical service coped with the consequences of the storm and the related technical difficulties.
