Elron raises train fares in Tallinn and surrounding areas from August 1
Train tickets in Elron’s first and second fare zones around Tallinn became 5–10 cents more expensive on August 1. The operator attributes the change to higher costs.
Elron, the passenger railway company operating in Estonia, has adjusted its ticket prices for trips involving Tallinn and its surroundings. The new fares took effect on 1 August.
The change concerns the first and second price zones, which together make up the area of Tallinn and the neighbouring municipalities. It covers both journeys that remain within the city boundaries and trips that cross from one zone to the other on the eastern, southern and western routes.
Those who live in Tallinn and are entitled to free travel inside the city can continue to use that benefit, as the fare adjustment does not affect it. According to the updated price list, a one-way ticket in the first zone now costs 2.20 euros, compared with 2.10 euros before. For reduced-fare passengers, the same ticket has gone up from 1.40 euros to 1.50 euros.
A ticket valid in both the first and second zones is now 2.55 euros, whereas it previously cost 2.50 euros. Elron has explained the price rise by the increase in its operating costs.
