From next year, Latvian language exams for adults to be run by the Latvian Language Agency

Starting next year, the state language proficiency exams for adults will no longer be administered by the State Education Development Agency, but by the Latvian Language Agency instead. The change concerns the responsible institution rather than the exam content itself.

Beginning next year, responsibility for administering state language proficiency exams for adults in Latvia will shift to a different institution. Until now, this task has been handled by the State Education Development Agency, but starting from the new year the function will be transferred to the Latvian Language Agency.

Reason for the change

The change is aimed at reorganizing how responsibilities are divided among institutions involved in Latvian language learning and proficiency testing. The Latvian Language Agency is already engaged in promoting language acquisition, so handing it the task of organizing exams is seen as a logical step in this area.

Effect on exam takers

People planning to take the state language proficiency exam will need to be aware that, from next year, a different institution will be responsible for organizing it. This may bring changes to the registration procedure and communication with the responsible body, although the process itself is expected to continue in line with previous practice.

Further details on exactly how the change will affect the exam process, registration, and other practical aspects are expected to be clarified closer to the date the change takes effect.
