AC Milan defeated newly promoted Venezia 2:0 at home in the second round of Serie A, securing their second win in as many matches and moving to the top of the table.

Goalless first half

Milan dominated the opening period and created several chances but failed to convert them. In the 12th minute, Gonçalo Ramos received a good pass and went one-on-one with Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stanković, who blocked the shot.

Venezia also threatened Milan's goal. In the 24th minute, a counterattack down the left flank ended with a cross that caused chaos in the box, where Ecuadorian midfielder John Yeboah was first to the ball and shot at the near post, but Milan managed to block it.

Second-half breakthrough

After the break, Venezia came close to taking the lead when Antoine Haïnneaux received a precise pass in the box and shot toward the far post, but the ball flew just wide.

Milan eventually broke the deadlock. In the 69th minute, Alexis Saelemaekers delivered an accurate pass into the box, where Gonçalo Ramos — the Portuguese forward who joined Milan from Paris Saint-Germain in the club's biggest transfer deal in history — was waiting. After several attempts, he beat Stanković to open the scoring.

Late in the match, a deflection off a Venezia defender sent the ball into the net a second time, sealing a 2:0 victory.

Derby awaits

With the win, AC Milan tops the Serie A standings. In the next round, to be played on Sunday, Milan will travel to Turin to face Juventus in a classic Italian football derby.
