Boy seriously injured in zoo crocodile enclosure sent home from hospital
A three-year-old boy who was seriously hurt in a crocodile enclosure at a Cambridgeshire zoo in June has been discharged from hospital and is now recovering at home. His family says his rehabilitation continues and thanked donors for their support.
A three-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries in a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on 18 June has now left hospital and has been back home for several weeks, his family has said.
In an online update, his parents said the boy was glad to be home, spending time with his toys, sleeping in his own bed, and enjoying being a big brother again.
Arrest and investigation
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident. He was later released on bail after police said he had been assessed as not fit for interview at the time.
Recovery continues at home
In a GoFundMe update posted on Monday, the family said it was good to finally be together again in the comfort of their own home. They explained that their son's rehabilitation is ongoing, and that with his immediate surgeries now complete, they can turn their full attention to his recovery at home. The parents added that they still attend hospital appointments regularly to plan the next stages of his treatment together as a family.
The GoFundMe page, set up to help the family cope financially and support the boy's recovery and rehabilitation, has raised more than £113,000 so far. The parents said the donations have helped cover essential costs such as bills and their mortgage, as well as compensate for lost wages during the period they were unable to work.
In an earlier update, the family said the boy had already undergone seven operations.
