Noa Jirgens: New Latvian Citizen Wins National Hammer Throw Championship

American-born athlete of Latvian descent Noa Jirgens won his first Latvian national championship in hammer throw with a result of 61.65 meters. He obtained Latvian citizenship last year and received his passport just one day before the competition.

Last weekend, the Latvian Athletics Championships witnessed a remarkable event: Noa Jirgens became the national champion in hammer throw for the first time. His throw of 61.65 meters secured him the gold medal.

Jirgens was born in 1997 in the United States but has Latvian roots. He obtained Latvian citizenship in October of last year and received his passport only one day before the national championships. The athlete expressed joy about finally returning to his heritage and plans to learn the Latvian language, noting that his father is also studying it.

Jirgens revealed that since the age of 13, he has dreamed of representing Latvia in the Olympic Games. This ambition is now closer than ever. The Latvian Athletics Association released a video of his winning performance, highlighting this significant achievement.
