Leak reveals premium specs for Lenovo's upcoming Googlebook 15 laptop
New leaked details suggest Lenovo is preparing a high-end laptop for Google's upcoming Googlebook platform, featuring a high-resolution OLED display and a powerful Intel chip. The device appears set to be pricier and more advanced than typical Chromebooks.
Freshly leaked information has surfaced revealing more details about the Lenovo Googlebook 15, one of the first laptops expected to run on Google's upcoming Android-based Googlebook platform. The details were reported by MacObserver, citing information it obtained.
Hardware specifications
According to the report, the device will feature a 15.3-inch OLED touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels, and a peak brightness of up to 500 nits. The laptop is said to be powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5 chip, with memory options of either 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and storage options of 256GB or 512GB.
These specifications notably exceed the requirements Google previously set for its Chromebook Plus lineup, which mandated at least 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and an Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 700 series processor to enable exclusive AI features.
Gemini features and design
Much of the added processing power is likely intended to support Gemini Intelligence features, including Magic Cursor, which turns the mouse cursor into a contextual prompting tool for Gemini. The Lenovo Googlebook 15 is also reported to include a signature Googlebook design element — a multicolored LED strip known as a "glowbar."
While the leaked specs don't confirm an exact price, they suggest the first wave of Googlebooks will cost more than most existing Chromebooks. Alongside the Lenovo Googlebook 15, Google is reportedly also developing a tablet with a detachable keyboard and trackpad as part of the same initiative.
According to earlier reports, Google is set to host a media event on September 15 to preview the first generation of Googlebook devices.
