Lenovo's Googlebook devices surface in leaked images
Leaked images appear to show multiple Lenovo devices with Googlebook branding, including two laptops and a 2-in-1 tablet. Google has not set an official launch date beyond later this year.
Lenovo appears to be working on several new devices for Google's Googlebook initiative, according to leaked images shared by Android Headlines. The images show three models: two laptops in different sizes, styled similarly to Lenovo's Chromebook Plus 14, and a 2-in-1 tablet with a kickstand and keyboard resembling the IdeaPad Pro Gen 2.
Google announced Lenovo as one of its launch partners in May, when it introduced its new Android-based take on ChromeOS. Until now, it was largely unclear what hardware would run the new software. All three leaked devices carry Googlebook branding on their keyboards and are stark white, featuring a light strip called 'Glowbar' — a mysterious hardware element Google hopes will set Googlebooks apart from other laptops.
The devices appear to have varying numbers of USB-C and USB-A ports. Glowing lights also seem to be planned for Google's upcoming Pixel phones. Google's initial announcement only showed an unknown laptop, so the appearance of a tablet in the leaked images suggests the platform is not laptop-only. ChromeOS and Android both run on tablets, but this is the first sign that Googlebooks could include them.
Most of the Googlebook features demonstrated so far appear designed around mouse and voice input. For instance, Magic Pointer lets users wiggle their mouse to quickly bring up contextual prompts for the Gemini assistant. Google hasn't announced an official launch date for Googlebooks beyond later this year. Since the initiative focuses on third-party laptop makers, the devices will likely debut separately from Google's phones. Alongside Lenovo, Google has named ASUS, Dell and HP as hardware partners.
